Flame Baby Flame
In the Nature vs. Nurture debate, I am a firm believer that a person is born gay, it’s not something they learn or choose to do. The reason I am so up in arms about the possibility gay gene is that, I’m afraid people will want to start genetic screening and abort babies because they don’t want a gay son or daughter.
And what if they get a positive result after genetic testing and decide to keep the baby out of obligation due to culture or religion, instead of love? Will they raise their child different? Will they treat little Billy or Suzie differently? Will they grow up shamed from the day they are born because of something they were destined to be? You can’t force homosexuality out of someone. Forcing Tonka trucks and dirt bikes on boys and princesses and dresses on girls won’t change what a person feels inside.
The whole idea of genetically testing fetuses for non-health related “issues” scares the crap out me. If my child turned out to be gay, I wouldn’t love them any less or treat them differently because of it. And I hate the fact that there are people out there who don’t see it that way, because of their closed minds and homophobic beliefs.
There is nothing wrong with being gay. And it would serve absolutely zero purpose to find out in utero. It is our jobs as parents to love our kids for who they are; gay, straight, tall, short, fat, thin, easy-going, stubborn, introvert, extrovert and the list goes on.
Oh and the male transgender who is now pregnant? It's not a miracle of science, the woman-turned-man never had the gender reassignment surgery. She took testosterone hormones to have more masculine features, but still had all the female parts required for reproduction. All he had to do was start taking some estrogen to increase his female hormones add some donated sperm and VOILA! he/she was pregnant. No miracle of science, just hormones. It's only weird to look at since he/she still looks like a man. It's not "Junior" people...

Even Breathing Can Kill You
What irritates me about this study is with this “knowledge”, how do you fix the problem? Hmm? You don’t. No matter what expensive programs you put into place, there will always be unpopular kids. Kids will have low self-esteem. Why? Because it’s human nature not to like everyone and to compare ourselves with others, making us unhappy with our own flaws. And good parenting can only take your kids so far and let’s not forget all those crappy parents out there.
This “study” was a waste of time and money. God, I was just talking to Jon last night about how useless so many of these medical research studies are. Who cares if that glass of red wine might give me a .05% greater chance of heart disease? Give me solid, indisputable facts, like smoking gives you lung cancer and contracting HPV can cause cervical cancer. I’m through with wishy-washy studies that are useless and only make people paranoid to use deodorant with aluminum because some study says that it might, possibly, slightly, but probably not increase your risk of cancer.
Seriously, if you stopped doing all the things these researchers have told you, you'd be dead.
Stop wasting millions of dollars that could be used for finding a CURE. I’m not saying to stop researching causes for cancer or other illnesses, but consider the likelihood of your research being useful.
I’m sure you’ve all heard about the major study that found that soldiers sent into combat had more stress than normal people. Really?? Holy shit! I never would have put the two together. Damn… The things you learn.
Obese emotional eaters are not fat because they’re unpopular. They’re fat because they eat crappy food to feel better. I don’t know any emotional eaters who reach for fruit and vegetables to get comfort. Besides that, I strongly feel that all these studies to find causes for obesity are just a ploy at passing the buck. “I’m not fat because I eat, I’m fat because my daddy didn’t say I love you enough.” Or “I’m not fat because I’m too lazy to get up and start moving, I’m fat because the TV/video games made me sit inside all day.”
Damn you society of non-accountability!!!
I'm not being judgemental or hypocritical; I watch too much TV, eat tons fast food, I constantly over-eat and I don't exercise. I am 5'2" and 115lbs. I have good genetics and will one day pay for it once my metabolism slows down. But it will be my own fault and I can't blame anyone for it, nor should I. Because I am LAZY and UNMOTIVATED. That's not society, that's all me, baby.

SPCA on SpeedDial
They seem to have a skewed view of how an animal should be treated. A dog should not be tied up all day out side and then locked in a basement at night. A dog is a pack animal and needs to be with its owners. Sure, you treat a dog like a dog and not like a human. Well, dogs are a lot more socially like people than you’d think and you can’t ostracize them because that’s neglect.
If you can’t afford the basic necessities for your animal (that includes regular trips to the vet) then you should not get one. And you can’t just pick up some random dog from god knows where, or even a reputable breeder, if that dogs’ personality doesn’t mesh with your way of life. For example, I would never get a dog that needs a lot of exercise because I just do don’t exercise. I need a dog that’s just as lazy as me (and yes there are those types of dogs out there, I’ve looked.)
And what did you think would happen if you let your not-fixed pet out unattended all day? You would think you’d get a clue and fix them. Or maybe let them spend some time inside.
Hyper dog? Exercise it and get some obedience training. It doesn’t take a god-damned rocket scientist to know how to properly own and raise a dog. It takes common sense and some research.
I HATE irresponsible pet owners and I will call the SPCA if I see something that’s not right. Your fur-baby deserves better than you.
I'm too upset to read this over again, so please ignore typo's and grammar.

Don't Call me Britney Spears
I have friends who I thought would have the sense to put their car seat in correctly, just hap-hazardly put the seat in without properly leveling it or locking the seat belt in place, and then not tighten the straps on the baby or properly place the chest buckle. Then again, these are the people that didn’t feel it necessary to strap their three month old into his vibrating chair but that's a whole other parenting rant.
These TV shows should enforce that the parents properly use car seats so that the viewers will see how to responsibly/properly transport a baby in a car. I get so angry because it takes no time at all to tighten a strap and put the buckle in the right position on the baby’s chest. Some might think that the baby will be hurt or feel smothered by tightened straps. If anything, a newborn baby will find comfort in being in the seat so secure, why do you think they like swaddling so much?? And how many times have I driven past a car just to see the car seat handle still up?
I believe that every parent should attend a mandatory car seat clinic before they are allowed to leave the hospital with their new baby. It’s not enough that the nurse makes sure you have a car seat, she needs to make sure you know how to use it. Someone needs to make sure that baby is safe on their drive home and not become a projectile object if an accident should occur.
I know that I'm not a perfect parent, none of use are, but safety is not something I take lightly. I know that by making sure she is as safe as she can possibly be in our car that I am doing the best that I can for her. I'm not that naive to think that "because we're just going to the store" something potentially deadly couldn't happen in those 5 minutes.
I just wish other people would be as serious and conscientious about car safety as myself and my family.

Human Nature: Over-reacting
Now on to the good stuff. I'd like to thank Stephen Harper for being true to human nature and over-reacting to a situation by trying to enforce a program that 1) has nothing to do with the recent events at Dawson College and 2) would not have prevented such a tragedy from occurring anywhere in Canada. What program you ask? The National Gun Registry. What kind of an ass would think that reinstating a program, that only tells us who has registered their weapons, would help prevent anything? "Ok, thank you seemingly sane person for registering this [insert gun type here]. Enjoy!" It's not like they screen for mental competence before they sell you the weapon so why would they think that making you register it would do anything?
By registering a weapon, it in no way gives Canada an indication that you might use it for anything other than mass murder. In that respect, why does anyone buy guns? To kill things, d'uh. So, by selling and registering guns, Canada is acknowledging that it is aware that you are buying this gun to kill someone or something, either intentionally or in self-defense.
"Gee, I knew when we sold him the gun that he was going to kill something/someone but we had no idea it would be on such a large scale." Like hurting/killing one person/thing is perfectly fine.
People are so stupid and time and time again they over-react and try and institute programs and laws that they feel will help prevent such tragedies. Examples being preventing mass murders by implementing a useless and extreme waste of money gun registry or banning certain breeds of dogs because they are considered "dangerous". Should they have banned Llhaso apsos because my grandmothers dog Farley bit me in the face unprovoked when I was kid? I think so. Or how about the German Shepard that chased me on my bike growling and snarling when I drove past it's house? That's it, German Shepards should also be banned.
Back to the point. People won't stop killing other people, either one at a time or on a larger scale. So don't think by implementing these types of "preventative" programs it is going to stop human nature. You can't predict human nature no matter what law you put into place. Some people just don't care about the consequences. Especially when they intend on killing themselves in the process of the crime they are committing.
For those of you wondering why I'm writing about politics when I don't care about them, I usually find politics so complicated and boring that it's just not worth my time but then they come up with a goody like this. I hate watching the news because stupid politicians make me so damn mad and rants like the above ensue.
And that they say, is that.
